Abstract

Research summary

The moderate approach among the theologians, is a method that combines tradition and reason, balancing between the apparent meaning and interpretation with robust scientific standards. It has been adopted by the majority of the Ahl al-Sunnah, notably the Ash'arites and the Maturidites, relying on the guidance of the companions in understanding texts. This method is characterized by justice and balance, steering clear of the intellectual extremism seen in the Mu'tazila and the rigid textualism of the Hashwiyya. It is the most suitable for preserving faith and addressing doubts with wisdom and proof. In this approach, reason serves as a tool for understanding rather than as a legislator, and tradition is preserved and respected rather than neglected. Thus, this method remains the choice of the Ummah for sound belief and disciplined thought.
